MIGORI: Residents of Aroso Sub-location were left in shock on Friday morning following the grim discovery of an unidentified middle-aged woman’s body along the roadside near the Corner Komega area.
The incident was reported early in the morning by local village elder Eric Wasonga, who immediately alerted local administration after residents stumbled upon the scene.
Speaking at the crime scene, Aroso Sub-location Assistant Chief David Onyango Matinde noted that none of the gathered residents recognized the victim.
The local leadership strongly suspects the woman was murdered elsewhere before her body was dumped in the area under the cover of darkness.
“Immediately after I was informed by village elder Eric Wasonga, I contacted the OCS at Migori Police Station, who dispatched officers and investigative teams to secure the scene,” Matinde said.
Police have retrieved the body and transferred it to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death and assist in identifying the victim.
Warning to criminals
Assistant Chief Matinde condemned the act in the strongest terms, issuing a sharp warning to perpetrators attempting to turn the sub-location into a dumping ground.
“Those committing murders elsewhere and dumping bodies in Aroso must desist immediately,” Matinde urged adding that, “We will work closely with law enforcement to ensure this comes to an end.”
Migori police have launched a formal investigation and are appealing to anyone with relevant information, or anyone who might recognize the victim, to report to the nearest police station.
