The government has allocated Sh1 billion in subsidies to reduce diesel prices by KSh 5 and prevent petrol prices from rising, according to Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi.

Speaking to constituents at Asere in Ugunja Constituency, the Energy boss assured the public that the broad-based government is committed to cushioning Kenyans against fuel price increases ahead of the upcoming review by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

“Under the leadership of President William Ruto, a total of KSh 1 billion has been channeled towards reducing diesel prices and ensuring petrol rates remain stable,” said the CS.

“Given the prevailing global market conditions, prices should have gone up, but Kenyans have been shielded through this subsidy.”

Wandayi also criticized political opponents, taking aim at the Linda Mwananchi movement led by Siaya Governor James Orengo and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

“That other group is planning to go and cause chaos in Homa Bay. I urge them to stop causing confusion and unrest in this region,” Wandayi said.

“We have stated categorically that we will support President Ruto as he seeks a second term in office. If they feel they are strong enough, let them form their own party and challenge us.”

The former National Assembly Minority Leader also urged voters in Siaya County to elect strong leadership, starting with the gubernatorial seat.

“We want to consolidate our strength and unite our forces. That is why we held talks with Deputy Governor William Oduol, who agreed to shelve his gubernatorial ambitions,” he added.
