As the political terrain realigns, Mzee Vitalis Awandu Ondewe, the Organizing Secretary of the Luo Council of Elders, has called on President William Ruto to name Mama Ida Odinga as his running mate for the General Election.
Awandu argues that picking the widow of the late ODM leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga would serve as a ultimate political tribute to the veteran opposition titan.
With millions of Raila’s staunch loyalists still mourning his passing, the elder believes the move would allow Ruto to capture vital sympathy votes across Nyanza and consolidate support throughout the late leader’s vast voting base.
While Awandu acknowledged that no formal consultations have taken place between Mama Ida and Ruto’s allies, nor has she publicly expressed interest in the seat, he maintained that she possesses the requisite political stature, leadership experience, and national gravitas to serve as Deputy President.
The proposal highlights the evolving strategies factions are employing to mobilize influence and bridge traditional political divides ahead of the contest.
