Energy Cabinet Secretary James Opiyo Wandayi has castigated the Linda Mwananchi political faction, accusing them of provoking unrest and deliberately escalating tension in the Nyanza region.
Speaking at Bar Okwiri village in Bondo Constituency during a condolence visit to the family of the late Mzee Olang’o Nyabola, the CS criticized the group’s recent tour of Homa Bay, claiming their public meetings were designed to incite hostility.
While acknowledging that the Constitution guarantees freedom of assembly and peaceful political gatherings, CS Wandayi emphasized that these rights do not extend to events calculated to provoke violence or destabilize communities.
He declared that the government would not tolerate external forces attempting to ignite conflict or disrupt peace in the region.
Wandayi urged residents across Nyanza and neighboring counties, including Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Migori, to reject divisive politics and safeguard regional harmony.
The CS, who was in company of the area lawmaker Gideon Ochanda, highlighted that Nyanza communities are aligned with President William Ruto’s national development agenda.
He called on residents throughout Nyanza and Western Kenya to remain united, focus on development-oriented politics, and rally behind President Ruto as a consolidated voting block in upcoming elections.
