A wave of grief has struck multiple communities across Kenya following a series of tragic incidents that claimed the lives of an elderly woman in Homa Bay County and a young man in Kilifi County.

In Homa Bay, a 78-year-old woman lost her life after drowning in a water pond in Kamboga Village, located within Wachara Sub-location, North Kanyikela Location, Ndhiwa Sub-County.

The body of Serfina Okoth Nyaloo was discovered floating in the water at around 6:15pm by local women who had gone to the pond to fetch water, prompting them to immediately alert her family.

According to preliminary information, Nyaloo was mentally challenged and had gone missing from her home, with relatives having frantically searched for her prior to the heartbreaking discovery.

Police and Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers subsequently visited the scene to look into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.

In a separate tragedy hundreds of miles away in Kilifi Town, a 23-year-old man died after he was allegedly electrocuted while working on the roof of a church in the Mabirikani area.

The deceased, identified as Peter John Mwaboga, was among a group engaged in construction and repair work at the worship center when he accidentally came into contact with an electrical current, dying on the spot.

Local police officers arrived promptly to secure the scene and launch investigations into the fatal accident.

Mwaboga’s body was later transferred to the Kilifi General Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination and further police directives.
