Ugenya Member of Parliament David Ochieng has called on the ruling broad-based political alliance, comprising the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), to endorse his bid for the Siaya County gubernatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
Ochieng, a third-term lawmaker who leads his own party, the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG), argued that his leadership experience makes him the ideal candidate to steer Siaya’s development agenda.
Speaking during President William Ruto’s development tour of Siaya County, where the Head of State launched several infrastructure projects and inspected ongoing works, Ochieng addressed the President directly.
“Your Excellency, I have worked with you for many years. I call upon the broad-based outfit to hand over the Siaya gubernatorial seat to me.”
The MP took aim at the current administration under Governor James Orengo, asserting that the incumbent has failed to deliver on his mandate to the electorate.
“This seat was given to a friend of mine in 2022; however, from the look of things, he has been defeated on his mandate as the county chief.”
His appeal comes despite President Ruto’s recent push for political consolidation, during which the President urged voters to move away from fringe and makeshift political outfits.
