Police in Homa Bay County have launched a manhunt for two suspects involved in a violent attack that led to the death of a man aged over 50 in Pala village, Upper Kabonyo, Boya Sub-Location.

The incident occurred overnight near the Ndhiwa polling center as the victim was returning home from a Christian night vigil (budho) for a deceased relative.

Confirming the incident, Milton Kawino, the Assistant Chief of Boya Sub-Location in Koguta Location, identified the deceased simply as Jombo.

According to the administrator, Jombo was critically hacked by assailants who were riding on a motorcycle.

During the chaotic attack, the motorboat or motorcycle carrying the assailants lost balance and crashed to the ground.

However, the suspects managed to flee the scene on foot, leaving behind the severely injured victim.

 “They hacked him severely before crashing their getaway motorcycle and fleeing into the dark on foot. We are working closely with the police to trace their whereabouts, and we appeal to anyone with information to step forward.”

The victim’s wife raised a distress alarm in an attempt to alert neighbours and gather help, but her cries went unanswered in time to apprehend the perpetrators or save her husband.

Jombo was rushed to a medical facility in Pala, Ndhiwa, for emergency treatment. Despite efforts by medical staff to save his life, he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

The body of the deceased has since been transferred to the Pala Funeral Home mortuary, where it awaits an autopsy as police continue their investigation to bring the culprits to justice.
