Kisumu East MP, Shakeel Shabbir, to meet Gen Z for being absent in parliament to vote

Kisumu East Member of Parliament Shakeel Shabbir faces a confrontation with GEN Z protestors visiting his office today, accusing him of betrayal during a critical legislative vote.

Among the few lawmakers from Nyanza who supported the controversial bill, Mr. Shabbir was notably absent during the crucial session.

Bonface Ogutu Akach, leader of the Kisumu chapter of the protests, announced on his Facebook page that youths will gather at Mr. Shabbir’s Kibos office. The protest, labeled #OccupyKisumu, is expected to draw a large number of GEN Z participants.

““Shakeel Shabir believes he has enough Unga to stop any protest. He appointed his wife as the Constituency Manager to ensure accountability decisions are pillow talks. We shall go to his office tomorrow to find out where he was when Kenya needed him the most,” read his post on Facebook.

Mr. Shabbir, a long-standing figure in Kisumu East, has consistently won elections over the past three terms, initially under the ODM ticket and subsequently as an independent candidate.

However, following his 2022 victory as an independent candidate, he shifted allegiance to the Kenya Kwanza faction led by President William Ruto.

Ogutu further stated, “In the annals of hansard, KISUMU EAST Constituency failed to vote in this very historic moment. As we send him greetings, we hope he learns from our resolve. Tomorrow (meaning today Monday), #OccupyKisumu shall meet in Kondele at 9am, then we proceed to his offices in Kibos.”
