Residents of Uhonya village in Gem Yala sub-county are in shock after a mentally ill man took his own life by hanging.

The young man, who was described as jovial by relatives and friends, was found hanging from a tree just 30 meters away from his home.

Preliminary investigations have not yet uncovered the reasons behind his tragic decision.

According to a police incident report obtained by Kondele News, it was reported that, “There was someone who had committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope on top of a tree at North West Gem location, Asayi sub-location, Uhonya village.”

Upon arrival at the scene, the police identified the deceased as Felix Odhiambo Ouma, an 18-year-old who had been mentally ill since birth. No suicide note was found.

The body has been transferred to Inuka Mortuary pending autopsy, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.
