Where is Boniface Mwangi? Kenyans online are asking

Kenyans online are raising concerns about the whereabouts and well-being of human rights defender and activist Boniface Mwangi.

The former journalist, known for his pivotal role in last month’s demonstrations, deleted all his social media accounts after posting a cryptic message on his X account, which he subsequently deactivated.

For better part of August 3 and August , Boniface Mwangi trended on Social Media.

The post read, “Someone gets to a stage in life, and they decide this is it for them. They’re ready for the next world. The pain, troubles, and expectations of others in this world are too much. They exit the stage, celebrate their life. End of story.”

This message has left many of Mwangi’s followers and those close to him deeply concerned.

Questions have been raised online about whether he is contemplating suicide, has been abducted, or is facing other serious issues.

Hanifa Farsafi, another human rights defender, expressed her worries on her X account, stating she had unsuccessfully tried to reach Mwangi.

“Boniface Mwangi has deactivated his accounts and we can’t get hold of him too, especially after the post he made. I spoke to him recently, asked if he was okay, and he mentioned how the attacks are always getting to him. My heart is so broken for him,” she wrote.

In June, former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga joined activists Boniface Mwangi, Hanifa Farsafi, and Hussein Khalid in advocating for the release of abducted colleagues.

The four stormed the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road to protest against the illegal abductions of anti-Finance Bill protesters.

The uncertainty surrounding Mwangi’s recent actions has left many Kenyans anxious and searching for answers regarding his safety and mental health.
