Bull-fighting ceremony in Kakamega leaves one man dead

Police in Shinyalu are investigating the death of a 25-year-old man, who was allegedly killed following a violent brawl during a bull-fighting ceremony at the Mukhonje grounds, a well-known bullfighting arena in the region.

Witnesses report that the two young men were seen arguing moments before the altercation escalated into a fatal fight.

According to the local administrator, Chief Isaac Makomere, the suspect and the deceased had a longstanding feud that tragically ended in bloodshed.

“The suspect is said to have had a longstanding feud with the deceased, which unfortunately has led to the loss of life,” said Makomere.

The shocking incident occurred as two bulls were locking horns, with hundreds of spectators cheering.

Amidst the chaos, the deceased collapsed to the ground, his clothes soaked in fresh blood.

A video obtained that has circulated online shows the grievously injured man being dragged away from the arena to prevent him from being trampled by the battling bulls.

He could be heard groaning in pain, with blood oozing from his head; he later died.

In the aftermath, enraged residents, armed with sticks and clubs, descended on the suspect in a wave of vigilante justice.

Elizabeth Susy, the mother of the deceased, expressed her profound devastation.

“I was called to the scene following the incident and arrived only to find my son dead. He had been slashed by a machete,” Susy recounted tearfully.

The body of the deceased has been taken to the Kakamega morgue as the investigation continues.
