Police in Naivasha investigating death at a construction site

NAIVASHA: Tragedy struck in Naivasha on Friday evening when a crane collapsed at a construction site, resulting in the death of a worker.

The incident has left the construction team in shock and mourning, as they were unable to save their colleague.

The site has been a source of contention, with local traders protesting against forced evictions related to the ongoing development.

The two-storey building, which began construction a few months ago, has seen the ground floor opened for business as a supermarket, while work on the upper floors continues—actions that appear to violate county bylaws.

Local resident David Chege expressed concern over the relentless pace of construction, stating, “Construction has been going on day and night, which may have put too much pressure on the equipment.”

Alice Wahome, another concerned resident, criticized the rapid construction, emphasizing that it poses serious risks to the workers’ safety.

The body of the deceased has been taken to Naivasha Level 5 Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem examination as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident begin.
