Assistant Chief and Police killed my son, laments Ugunja man.

UGUNJA: Dismas Wanga Ohanga, a resident of Ugunja sub-county, finds himself engulfed in sorrow following the tragic death of his son at the hands of local Assistant Chief and police. His son, Lewis Otieno, succumbed to injuries sustained after being allegedly arrested and brutally beaten by police officers, leaving Dismas devastated.

As a widower who had devoted himself to providing the best for his children after the loss of his wife, Dismas is now grappling with the pain of losing a beloved son in such a senseless manner. In an emotional interview with Kondele News, he voiced his anguish and called for justice, urging the government, through the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA), to ensure that those responsible face the full weight of the law.

The tragic sequence of events unfolded when the police apprehended Lewis on his way home one fateful night, detaining him at Okwako Police Post where he endured a night of relentless assault. Released the following day in a grievous state, Lewis recounted the harrowing ordeal to his family, revealing the brutal treatment inflicted upon him by the very authorities entrusted with protecting citizens.

The gravity of the situation became apparent when Lewis’s injuries proved fatal, leading to his untimely demise on April 1 at Sagam Hospital in Gem sub-county. His grandmother, Josephine Akoth, described the anguish of witnessing her grandson’s suffering and the chilling threats made by the officers during the ordeal.

Post-mortem results confirmed that Lewis died as a result of the injuries inflicted upon him. The family, devastated by their loss, now seeks closure and justice for Lewis’s untimely death. They implore IPOA to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.

Siaya County Commander, Kleti Kimaiyo, assured the public that investigations are underway and emphasized that no one is above the law. While conflicting reports surround the circumstances of Lewis’s arrest and subsequent assault, Kimaiyo affirmed that justice will prevail, and those found culpable will face the consequences of their actions.

In the face of unimaginable grief, Dismas Wanga Ohanga remains steadfast in his pursuit of justice for his son, Lewis Otieno, whose life was tragically cut short by an act of brutality that shook their community to its core.
