SIAYA; A devastating road accident at the notorious Kagoya black spot along the Siaya-Nyadorera highway has claimed the lives of three family members, including two young children.
The crash, which occurred in the evening, involved a private salon car and a school bus, leaving three others with serious injuries.
According to Paul Kinoti, Chief of Nyadorera Location, the salon car was traveling from Siaya towards Nyadorera when it attempted to overtake a lorry.
Tragically, the car collided head-on with an oncoming school bus, instantly killing three people.
“The victims were part of the same family—Robert Odembo, a 44-year-old father, his two children, aged 10 and 5, and their house-help,” Chief Kinoti explained. “They were returning home when the tragic incident occurred.”
The chief also drew attention to the danger of the Kagoya black spot, an area that has seen a number of fatal accidents over the years.
He urged road users, especially motorists and cyclists, to be extra cautious on the Siaya-Nyadorera highway.
“This is a dangerous black spot where we have lost many lives. I urge everyone to be vigilant when using this road,” he said.
Budalangi Member of Parliament, Raphael Wanjala, expressed his condolences on Facebook, describing Robert Odembo as an entrepreneur who had made significant contributions to the local economy.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Robert Odembo. He was an entrepreneur who contributed immensely to the development of Port Victoria and Bunyala. My thoughts and prayers are with his surviving family members,” Wanjala wrote.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Siaya County Referral Mortuary for post-mortem examination, while the injured survivors are receiving treatment at the same facility. The police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident.
