President William Ruto has predicted that the next general election will give Kenyans the chance to unite behind national cohesion, inclusivity and fair sharing of resources while rejecting marginalisation, tribalism and divisiveness.
Speaking in Migori County during his development tour of the Nyanza region, the President said his focus remains on service delivery and bringing all Kenyans together.
He urged residents to support the government’s agenda of roads, water projects, electricity connections, agricultural revival, education and affordable housing.
Ruto highlighted the broad-based framework involving the Orange Democratic Movement, United Democratic Alliance and Kenya Kwanza as a vehicle for national unity that ends politics of discrimination, hatred and exclusion.
“The Broad-Based Government is ensuring that development is implemented in all parts of the country. No part of Kenya is being discriminated against or marginalised in development,” he stated.
He criticised politicians who promote tribalism and hatred, assuring Kenyans that his administration would continue prioritising development and unity.
“The 2027 General Election will be a vote to do away with discrimination, tribalism and hatred among Kenya’s communities. It will be about inclusivity, unity and against marginalisation,” he said.
Sponsorship by the former head of state
The President again accused his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta of sponsoring opposition figures to undermine his leadership. In Migori town, he described his critics as “puppets” and “people on hire” used to oppose projects introduced by his administration.
He claimed the “sponsor” had failed to deliver roads, universal healthcare, housing and education while in office and was now directing opponents to attack the current programmes, particularly affordable housing.
Ruto said his competitors lack concrete development plans.
“We are competing with a bunch of people either engaging in personality cults or ethnic inclination with no plan or agenda except titles or long careers with no development record,” he remarked.
During the tour, the President launched several infrastructure projects.
In Awendo Constituency he flagged off construction of the 32km Kanyawanga-Kwoyo-Madiaba-Dede-Odongo Oher-Rapogi-Awendo road, a Sh2.25 billion project expected to improve connectivity, ease transport and expand market access.
The country boss noted that the roads budget for Migori County had risen from under Sh2 billion before 2022 to Sh19 billion, with 320km of new roads under construction.
He said the government has connected 82,000 households to electricity in the county over the past three years, reaching 82 per cent coverage.
An additional Sh2.3 billion has been allocated this financial year to connect another 21,000 homes, with a target of 100,000 connections in Migori by 2027 under the Rural Electrification Programme.
Ruto also pointed to a Sh28 billion investment in 8,000 affordable housing units, 19 modern markets and student hostels accommodating 8,000 learners in universities, technical colleges and the Kenya Medical Training College within the county.
Revived sugar sector
On the sugar sector, he said Sony Sugar Company has been revived, with farmers paid on time and workers receiving salaries promptly. “Next month, sugarcane farmers in the county will, for the first time, receive a bonus,” he added.
In Uriri Constituency he inspected the ongoing 20km Stella-Sibuoche-Gogo Falls road, a Sh1.63 billion project aimed at unlocking economic potential in trade and agriculture. He also commissioned the 28km 132kV Awendo-Masaba Transmission Line and the 132/33kV Masaba Sub-Station in Kuria West Constituency.
The Sh1.4 billion project has boosted power supply to Kehancha, Migori, Isebania and surrounding areas, supporting industries such as Sony Sugar and Getonyanya Sweet Potatoes Factory, improving services at Migori County Referral Hospital and strengthening operations at the Isebania One-Stop Border Post.
Further launches included the Kuria West Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project and phase one of the Nyarobiro-Kombe-Masaba-Nyangubo-Getonganya-Ikerege-Taranganya road.
In Migori town he launched the 32km Posta-Nyirongi-Osiri road in Suna East Constituency.
Present at the events were Cabinet Secretaries Opiyo Wandayi (Energy), John Mbadi (National Treasury) and Davis Chirchir (Roads and Transport), Governors Ochilo Ayacko (Migori), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay) and Simba Arati (Kisii), National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed and several MPs.
Mbadi challenged 2027 presidential aspirants to move beyond slogans and detail how they would address Kenya’s economic and social challenges, urging voters to subject candidates to rigorous scrutiny.
Governor Wanga said some leaders oppose Ruto because of his national unity efforts and equitable development.
“The Broad-Based Government has taken development to every corner of Kenya. That’s why some people, who had marginalised other areas in the past, are now angry at President Ruto,” she said.
Governors Arati and Ayacko praised the equal distribution of resources regardless of political or ethnic background. Arati stated that ODM and UDA are working together under the broad-based arrangement to support Ruto’s re-election in 2027 for unity and prosperity.
Junet Mohamed said suspicions and mistrust are wrecking the opposition, which lacks a national agenda, while Suna West MP Francis Masara described Ruto as Kenya’s most consequential president for fulfilling his 2022 manifesto.
