Rigathi Gachagua mourns KK Mwenyewe, comedian who imitated him

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has paid tribute to popular content creator Zachariah Kariuki, widely known as Mr KK Mwenyewe, following his untimely death.

Speaking from the United States, where he is currently on a political tour, Gachagua described the late comedian as “a content creator par excellence and an inspiration to many.”

“I woke up this morning to the sad news of the demise of Mr Zachariah Kariuki, alias Mr KK Mwenyewe,” said Gachagua in a statement.

“Mr KK was a young, consistent, and resilient man who used comedy to convey simple yet powerful messages to Kenyans. He truly spoke to our hearts.”

Mr KK died on Monday evening while receiving treatment at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital. The news of his death was confirmed on Tuesday morning by fellow comedian Kafengo, who did not disclose the cause of death.

Known for his sharp political satire and spot-on impersonations of Gachagua, Mr KK gained a massive following across social media platforms. His unique comedic style endeared him to fans from all walks of life and made him a rising star in Kenya’s creative space.

Gachagua, also the leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party, expressed his condolences to the family, friends, and the broader creative industry.

“I send my deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this difficult time. I particularly extend my condolences to the creative community, which has lost a true champion. Mr KK’s creative voice and vision will live on. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may God comfort his loved ones,” he said.

Tributes have since poured in from across the country, with fans and fellow creatives mourning the loss of one of Kenya’s brightest comedic talents.

Many described Mr KK’s death as both shocking and tragic, remembering him as a gifted entertainer who brought laughter and perspective through his craft.
