The rise of juvenile gangs in Umoja causing panic

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched probe into this tragedy, where a 15 year-old boy died after rival gangs engaged in confrontation.

The deceased juvenile has been identified as Joshua Kubiti, he died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.

The DCI began probe after a video surfaced online, in it rival gangs of teenagers clashed in the streets of Umoja, their chaotic fight a spectacle of youthful rage.

What they have uncovered is a disturbing reality: juvenile gangs are not a new phenomenon in this area, but they are growing in power and brutality.

These boys, some as young as 12, have formed rival factions with menacing names like Chinje, Mbogi, Bad Bunny, and Silent.

Their territories span across Tena, Innercore, Umoja I, II & III, Kayole, Kariobangi, and beyond. They are linked to a spree of violent confrontations, phone snatching, and theft—but the most tragic of their crimes is the death of Joshua.

Police have now moved to restore order. In a swift, targeted crackdown led by Buruburu detectives, 14 juveniles—10 boys and 4 girls—were arrested.

They were presented before the Makadara Law Courts, where investigators were granted the time they need to build a case that will ensure justice for Joshua Kubiti and hold the perpetrators accountable.

As a community grieves, the National Police Service has vowed to restore a sense of safety.

They have assured the public of their unwavering commitment to law and order, promising a sustained crackdown on these juvenile gangs and all other criminal elements that threaten the peace of Nairobi and the entire country.
