Mary Deya, wife of the late controversial evangelist has died

BONDO: Mary Deya, the widow of the late controversial televangelist Gilbert Deya, has been found dead at her home in Bondo.

Her passing comes just nine months after the death of her husband, marking a quiet end to a life once defined by international headlines and legal storms.

The early morning incident has sent shockwaves through the local community.

Residents, who described Mary as a “quiet and reserved” woman, expressed disbelief at the news.

Since the death of her husband last year, Mary had largely retreated from the public eye, seeking a secluded life in the village.

At this time, the cause of death remains unknown, pending further investigation by local authorities.

The Deyas rose to global infamy in the early 2000s while operating a ministry in London.

They gained notoriety for claiming they could help infertile couples conceive “miracle babies” through the power of prayer.

However, these spiritual claims soon faced grim reality: investigations linked the church to an organized child-trafficking ring.

Following a decade-long extradition battle in the UK, Gilbert Deya was returned to Kenya eight years ago to face charges.

In 2023, the case concluded with an acquittal for Gilbert Deya due to what the court cited as insufficient evidence.

After the legal battles subsided and her husband passed away, Mary Deya chose a life of solitude in Bondo.

Her death effectively closes the final chapter on one of the most polarizing religious sagas in Kenyan and British history.
