A major disaster was narrowly averted after a multi-agency security team intercepted a terror suspect and recovered a live Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along the busy Garissa–Dadaab Road.

The successful operation disrupted what authorities believe was a sinister attack in its final stages of preparation.

The breakthrough occurred at the Haji Aden area during a routine patrol by heavily armed security forces.

Officers spotted a lone man by the roadside whose behavior immediately raised red flags.

The moment the suspect realized the security team was closing in, he bolted into the nearby thickets in a desperate bid to escape.

Officers gave immediate chase through the dense bush, ultimately outmaneuvering, cornering, and subduing the fleeing suspect.

The suspect has been identified as Hussein Issa Baraki.

Following his arrest, officers marched Baraki back to the exact spot where he had been hovering before his escape attempt.

A thorough sweep of the immediate area uncovered a deadly cache hidden in the brush: Improvised Explosive Device (IED) ready for deployment, a full set of military-style jungle attire, including a jacket and trousers, and two mobile phones, now being treated as critical pieces of digital evidence.

Baraki was heavily escorted to the Garissa Police Station, where he is currently being processed.

Detectives have widened their investigations to uncover his intended target, potential accomplices, and any broader terror network operating along the critical transport corridor.

The recovered IED and military gear are being held as primary exhibits for his upcoming arraignment.
