Political rivalry in Kisii County was on display during the commissioning of Dr Zachary Onyonka Nyanguru DOK Mixed secondary school in Kitutu Chache South Constituency, where area MP Anthony Kibagendi sharply criticized Governor Simba Arati.
Addressing residents during the event attended by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i, the lawmaker accused the governor of intimidating political opponents and disrespecting leaders in the county.
“I want to tell you, Simba Arati, you have been threatening people in our county and disrespecting leaders. We shall not give you an opportunity to walk around and threaten us,” said Kibagendi.
The MP also accused the county leadership of failing to adequately address challenges in education, healthcare and the economy, while calling for political accountability.
Dr Matiang’i supported Kibagendi, saying the MP was being targeted because of his efforts to serve the people of Kitutu Chache South.
At the same time, Matiang’i urged residents to maintain peace and avoid violence despite political differences.
“Peace is everything. We develop our country through discipline and by living together peacefully,” he said.
