A Sh62 million school reconstruction project in Kisii County will not only digitize classrooms for local students but will also provide internet and ICT access to the surrounding community.

Launched by the Safaricom and M-Pesa Foundations at Bogesaka DOK Primary and Junior Secondary School, the massive facelift aims to bridge the digital divide in the region by transforming the aging institution into a modern tech hub.

“We are grateful to Safaricom for honoring our request to reconstruct this school. The institution is old and in bad shape, but it will now be transformed into a modern learning center,” said Stephen Isaboke, Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications.

The PS said the project will include new classrooms, laboratories, and a computer laboratory with internet access. He added that the ICT facility will also be available for use by community members during weekends.

“The school will be fully digitized to ensure our youth become part of the digital generation,” he said.

Isaboke also encouraged Kenyans to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA), noting that over 31 million citizens have already enrolled. He further called on parents and teachers to promote discipline and moral values among children.

A Safaricom Foundation Project Manager, Engineer Zqchary Hamptons  said the investment is being implemented through the foundation’s Citizens of the Future initiative, which aims to improve education infrastructure across the country.

“Through this initiative, the foundation has invested Sh62 million towards the complete renovation of the school. We will construct new classrooms, an administration block, a modern ICT centre, a science laboratory, a kitchen and ablution blocks,” said Hamptons.

Hamptons noted that education is key to community development and said the foundation believes investing in schools is one of the best ways to improve the future of the country.
