Please pay my money, Single mother in pain after a high-end hotel in Kisumu refused to pay for her supplies

A distraught single mother in Kisumu is crying out for justice after a prominent local hotel failed to clear a years-long debt for groceries she supplied.

Nancy Aluvisa, who operates a grocery stall at the Jubilee Market in Kisumu City, claims she has made hundreds of unsuccessful trips to the Mills View Hotel in an attempt to recover her dues.

What initially felt like a major breakthrough, winning a tender to supply fresh produce to the hotel, has turned into a financial nightmare. The hotel management now denies ever transacting business with her.

According to Ms Aluvisa, who relies entirely on her grocery business to support her family, her original supplies amounted to Sh385,000. However, a transition in the hotel’s management occurred before the debt was settled.

“The invoice I initially issued was Sh385,000. I was assured that I would be paid, so I continued with the supplies until the bill reached that amount,” Ms Aluvisa told Kondele News.

Audited invoice

When the new management took over, officials audited the claim and slashed it to Sh228,000.

Although she initially protested the reduction, she eventually agreed to accept the lower figure after realizing her complaints were falling on deaf ears.

Receipts seen by Kondele News corroborate her claims; they bear ‘Mills View Hotel rubber-stamp’.

“They agreed to pay the Sh228,000, proceeding to pay Sh100,000 upfront with a promise to clear the balance in installments. Years have passed since then, and I still haven’t received the remaining Sh128,000,” she added.

Ms Aluvisa, who supplied essentials including beans, vegetables, and fruits, noted that she has been pleading with the management to clear the balance since 2024, but to no avail.

She further alleges that her frequent visits and calls to the hotel have taken a heavy emotional toll, compounded by threats from the management.

When contacted for comment, the hotel manager dismissed the allegations, stating that the current administration does not recognize Ms Aluvisa and has no record of transacting business with her.
