Police have launched an intensive investigation into a deadly night attack at a cemetery along the Kisumu–Busia Highway that left a 50-year-old security guard dead and his colleague critically injured.

The violent incident occurred at approximately 4am on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

According to preliminary police reports, a three-man gang armed with crude weapons breached the facility by scaling the perimeter gate before ambushing the two private security guards on duty.

The deceased has been identified as Kelvin Samson Odhiambo.

First responders stated that Odhiambo bore the brunt of the assault, suffering a fatal deep cut to his lower jaw alongside severe trauma to his left eye inflicted by a blunt object.

Odhiambo’s 22-year-old colleague managed to break away from the assailants during the melee despite sustaining four deep machete cuts to his head and shoulder.

The survivor was rushed to Jalaram Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed he is currently in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
