Now I have 19 soldiers in parliament, former DP Gachagua happy after the Ol-Kalou victory

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hailed Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru’s landslide victory in the Ol Kalou by-election as a monumental political shift, declaring it the definitive arrival of his DCP party on the national stage.

In a strong address, Gachagua praised the residents of Ol Kalou for “refusing to sell their birthright,” thanking them for rejecting state-backed development pledges and financial inducements.

He commended the resilience of the electorate, who guarded their ballots on a tense polling day despite facing intimidation from rogue police officers armed with guns and tear gas.

Framing the victory as a major boost to his political influence, Gachagua highlighted its strategic importance to his ongoing legislative battles.

“I have been struggling with 18 soldiers but with great results; now I have 19, things will be much better,” he stated, referring to his growing parliamentary ranks.

He also extended gratitude to Nyandarua Senator John Methu and Woman Representative Wanjiku Muhia for spearheading the grueling three-month campaign.

Moving forward, Gachagua announced a thank-you tour across all five wards of Ol Kalou on Friday, July 17, 2026, stating that the local community had directed him to return to the ground immediately to show his appreciation.
