4 terrorist plots thwarted in Lamu as KDF neutralizes hidden IEDs in Operation Amani Boni dragnet

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops operating under Operation Amani Boni (OAB) have successfully disrupted four separate terrorist plots in Lamu County after detecting and safely destroying concealed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The explosives were uncovered during routine intelligence-led dominance and route clearance missions along Major Supply Routes (MSRs)—vital transit corridors shared by local communities, commercial vehicles, and security personnel.

The first threat was intercepted when patrol troops discovered a concealed pressure-plate IED before it could be triggered.

Soldiers immediately cordoned off the area and executed a controlled detonation to neutralize the device.

Days later, KDF teams conducting further clearance patrols in the Sarira area located three additional concealed IEDs spaced along key supply routes at intervals of approximately 5.1 kilometers, 8.27 kilometers, and 8.4 kilometers.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists were deployed to the scene and safely disposed of all three devices without incurring any casualties or property damage.

According to KDF leadership, the reliance on hidden explosives highlights the desperation of militant groups facing mounting pressure from ongoing offensive and stabilization operations across the region.
