Four-year-old girl dies in tragic fire razing home in Seme, Kisumu County

SEME SUB-COUNTY: A four-year-old girl tragically lost her life late Tuesday night after a fire completely destroyed her family’s house in Oboro Village, Arongo Beach area, located within Seme Sub-County, Kisumu County.

The harrowing incident was formally reported to Reru Police Station on Wednesday.

Responding officers established that a single unit within a four-room iron-sheet residential block was entirely gutted by the blaze.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that the family had their supper at approximately 8:00 p.m. before the young girl fell asleep.

Her parents tucked her into bed, secured the house, and stepped out to the father’s nearby shop, situated just 15 meters away, to arrange stock before closing for the night.

At around 10pm, the couple heard a sudden explosion coming from their residential unit and rushed back to find it completely engulfed in flames.

Despite frantic rescue efforts by neighbors, the fire rapidly escalated after a 6-kilogram cooking gas cylinder inside the home caught fire. While three neighboring households managed to salvage some of their belongings, the victim’s family lost all of their property to the inferno.

Crime scene investigators processed and documented the site before recovering the child’s remains, which had been burnt beyond recognition.

Her body was subsequently moved to the Kombewa Referral Hospital mortuary to await a post-mortem examination.

Police have confirmed that the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, and active investigations are ongoing.
