A middle-aged man has been arraigned before a Migori court over allegations of defiling an eight-year-old girl.

Daniel Otieno was charged in connection with an incident alleged to have occurred on August 30 in Nyatike Sub-County, Migori County.

The prosecution told the court that Otieno allegedly touched the private parts of the eight-year-old minor using his private parts, an act prohibited under Kenyan law however the accused person denied the charges when he appeared before the court.

Senior Principal Magistrate Mathews Okuche granted the accused an assurity bond of Sh300,000. However, Otieno had not secured the required surety for his release by the time of the court proceedings and therefore remained in custody.

The case is scheduled to come up again on September 30, when the court is expected to give further directions on the matter.
