High Court bars Standard Group from linking Charlene Ruto to Sh2.8B police uniform tender

First Daughter, Charlene Ruto has secured emergency High Court orders to protect her reputation from an ongoing media onslaught, compelling the Standard Group to halt allegations tying her to the Sh2.8 billion Kenya Police Service uniform supply deal.

Charlene’s petition highlights the persistent digital harm caused by the August 30 publications, arguing that the media house failed to issue a retraction or take down online versions despite formal notices and official police clarifications.

The emergency injunction follows a suit filed by Charlene challenging stories published by The Standard on August 30, 2026. The reports—headlined “THE TRAIL…” on the front page and “Police uniform tender trail links Alusala teacher and First Family” on page six, implied she participated in or benefited from the alleged Sh2.8 billion contract.

Through her legal team, Charlene told the court that the publications damaged her reputation by wrongfully associating her with the tender. Court documents show the National Police Service (NPS) subsequently clarified that Nalitex Limited, the firm cited in connection to her, played no role in the procurement, held no subcontract, and received no payments.

The NPS confirmed Bedi Investments Limited as the actual contractor.

Despite serving the media house with a right-of-reply notice seeking a retraction, apology, and removal of the digital articles, Charlene argued the material remained active online, fueling ongoing harm.

She sought orders compelling the publisher to take down the online versions or attach corrective notices.

Granting the interim restraining order, the court effectively halted any further republication of the claims pending substantive hearings.

The Standard Group has seven days to file its response, and the matter will be mentioned on October 19, 2026
