Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has declared that the Linda Mwananchi Movement will field Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as its presidential flagbearer during coalition talks with other opposition parties ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an interview on Spice FM, the Suba South lawmaker who serves as the movement’s spokesperson, stated that the grouping intends to enter negotiations with a firm stance rather than an open-ended proposal.

He emphasized that Linda Mwananchi will formally nominate Sifuna first before engaging other opposition factions in talks aimed at building a formidable grand coalition to challenge President William Ruto.

The coalition strategy aims to unite key opposition figures vying for the top seat, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and Jubilee deputy party leader Fred Matiang’i.

Omondi revealed that Siaya Governor James Orengo, the movement’s overall leader, alongside Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, will lead the high-level negotiation team. The movement’s strategy directly mirrors the historic 2002 National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) model, which successfully united rival opposition factions behind Mwai Kibaki to end KANU’s decades-long rule.

The announcement comes as Linda Mwananchi moves to iron out internal power dynamics. Addressing supporters during a tour in Nairobi, Governor Orengo pledged to hold consultative talks with Sifuna to harmonize their presidential ambitions and ensure a unified front before reaching out to external allies.
