BY AGENCY: Veteran Nigerian actor Olu Jacobs has died at the age of 84. His family confirmed his passing on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, through a statement shared on social media. His wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, shared a throwback photograph of the celebrated Nollywood actor alongside the family’s announcement.
Jacobs, whose career spanned theatre, television and film, was widely recognised as one of the most respected figures in Nigerian entertainment.
The family announced Jacobs’ passing in a statement remembering him as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle. They also referred to him as “The Lion of Lufodo”, a name associated with his long-standing contribution to Nigeria’s performing arts.
The family wrote, “It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle”.
They added, “The Lion of Lufodo. Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs (MFR) 11/07/ 1942- 16/09/2026 We call on all bloggers and social media influencers to respect our families privacy at this time.”
Jacobs was born on July 11, 1942, and died on September 16, 2026, aged 84.
