Pain as six bodies are retrieved from Lake Baringo

BARINGO: The search for the six bodies that were still missing from Sunday April 21 incident in Lake BAringo was completed today after the bodies were found by the divers.

This were part of the 23 people who were travelling by water to Kokwa Island, most of them were youths.

When they were approaching their destination which is Kokwa Island, the boat was overpowered by storm and they capsized.

The rescue team quickly mobilized some divers who went on a rescue mission, a total of 16 people were rescued, and one body.

The search for the missing six people began, and today they concluded after getting all the six.

This now brings the number of those who lost lives in the tragedy to seven.

The crew was travelling from Salabani to Kokwa Island when the tragedy befell them.

Water accidents, according to Mr Richard Odhiambo, an disaster management experts says is a pointer to the ill-preparedness of the country in the sector.

“We have a tendency of reacting after an incident. In disaster management, we must ensure we are ahead. Anything can happen anytime, that is why water divers must be trained, fire fighters must also be trained and any other field,” said Mr Odhiambo.
