Police arrest a fisherman with a home-made gun in Bondo

BONDO: A 20-year-old fisherman found himself in deep trouble after being arraigned before a Bondo magistrate’s court for possessing a home-made gun, sparking concerns among local authorities.

The suspect, identified as Fredrick Otieno Oholo, was apprehended by police yesterday while carrying what initially appeared to be a real firearm.

The drama unfolded as Otieno, preparing for his usual evening fishing routine, was spotted by the chairman of the Wichlum Beach Management Unit (BMU), who noticed something unusual about the young man’s small black bag.

Suspecting that Otieno was carrying a gun, the BMU chairman quickly alerted the police, who wasted no time in rushing to the scene at Wichlum Beach.

According to the police incident report seen by Kondele News, officers arrived just in time to prevent Otieno from departing for his night fishing duties.

Upon searching his bag, they discovered a home-made gun, complete with an empty magazine, a spring, a cocking handle, a firing pin, and a trigger—believed to be fully capable of firing ammunition.

As the investigation continues, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has requested more time to delve deeper into the matter, leaving Otieno in custody.

The case has raised alarms within the local fishing community, highlighting the need for vigilance and security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
