Kalonzo Tosha; former governor Waititu hints at Mt Kenya supporting Wiper leader

Former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu has suggested that a section of the Mt Kenya region may support Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in the 2027 general election, aiming to unseat President William Ruto.

Waititu, who was impeached as governor, criticized President Ruto for the challenges facing former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

His comments came just a day after Prof. Kithure Kindiki was sworn in as the third Deputy President under the new constitution.

“I was present when Uhuru Kenyatta became president. I helped him promote his policies until he captured the seat with the current president as his deputy. He turned against me and betrayed me; I was impeached,” lamented Waititu, who was elected in 2017 and impeached in 2019.

He continued, “I can see Kalonzo Musyoka coming to the mountain as a meek man. We shall support him and make President Ruto a one-term president.”

Waititu also pointed out that President Ruto’s demeanor changed immediately after his election.

“He was a humble man facing problems under President Kenyatta. When we supported him as the mountain, he did worse than President Kenyatta did,” said Waititu.

This statement indicates a potential shift in political alliances within the Mt Kenya region, as dissatisfaction with the current administration grows.
