Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters have gunned down two members of a notorious armed gang in a gunfight in Matungu village, Kakamega County.
Acting on intelligence, the detectives, part of the DCI’s Operation Action Team and Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, surrounded a rented house where the suspects were hiding and ordered them to surrender.
The gang members, however, chose to engage in a firefight and were fatally injured during the exchange.
Upon searching the hideout, the officers recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 15 rounds of live ammunition and a Bajaj motorcycle.
The motorcycle is believed to belong to a police officer currently in a coma at a Kakamega hospital after being attacked by a machete-wielding gang on November 12, 2024, in Butere township.
The exhibits have been secured, and the bodies of the unidentified suspects have been transported to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation and fingerprint identification.
This operation marks a crucial step in dismantling the gang that has terrorized Kakamega and neighboring counties, showcasing the determination and effectiveness of the DCI’s ongoing efforts to restore safety and order in the region.
