Police arrest drug trafficker with 2kg of bhang hidden in maize flour packets

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) stationed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) have arrested a 27-year-old woman, Quinter Achieng Matengo, and recovered 2,000 grams of cannabis sativa concealed in her luggage.

The suspect, who was scheduled to travel to Doha, Qatar, was intercepted after her luggage underwent screening by Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) staff. Suspicious items were flagged during the process, prompting immediate action by the ANU detectives.

Following interrogation, Matengo was escorted to the ANU offices, where a thorough search of her luggage revealed the drugs cleverly hidden in maize flour packets. However, her attempt to evade detection was foiled by the sharp-eyed officers.

The recovered drugs were weighed and secured in safe custody, while the suspect was processed and is awaiting arraignment in court.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reiterated its commitment to the fight against the sale, distribution, trafficking, and consumption of illicit drugs, particularly during the festive season.
