Second accused in the murder of Catholic cleric gets 30 years sentence

EMBU: The second accused in the murder of Catholic Priest Fr. Michael Kyengo Maingi, who was killed in October 2019 while serving at Thatha Parish in Masinga, Machakos County, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Embu High Court Judge, Justice L. Njuguna, delivered the sentence earlier today after the full hearing of the case, which began in 2019.

In July 2021, the first accused, Michael Muthini Mutunga, was also sentenced to 30 years after pleading guilty to the priest’s brutal murder.

Fr. Kyengo’s murder sent shockwaves across the community, and today’s sentencing of Kavivya Mwangangi marks another step toward justice for the slain priest.

The court emphasized the seriousness of the crime, underscoring the need for accountability in such heinous acts.
