NAMBALE: A wave of shock and sorrow has engulfed Lupida Village in Nambale Sub-county, Busia County, after a 30-year-old man brutally murdered his wife in cold blood following a domestic dispute.
The suspect, Douglas Busolo, is alleged to have locked his wife inside their house before attacking her with a machete, inflicting deep wounds on her head.
After committing the heinous act, he surrendered himself to the police.
Confirming the incident, area administrator Willy Bonface Opio revealed that the victim’s lifeless body was discovered lying in a pool of blood after neighbors peeped through the window.
The door remained locked from the inside.
“According to reports, the couple had disagreed after the wife attempted to introduce a child she had from a previous relationship,” Opio stated.
He further disclosed that Busolo, originally from Kakamega County, had recently bought a piece of land near a health facility in Lupida, where he built a house and moved in with his family just last November.
Community Calls for Caution and Dialogue
In response to the incident, Opio urged locals to be cautious when selling land to strangers and to conduct proper background checks before allowing outsiders into their community.
Village elder Patrick Okello, alongside Simon Esonga Akanya and Manuel Akanyo, condemned the act, emphasizing the need for constructive dialogue in resolving family disputes rather than resorting to violence.
“This kind of crime is unheard of in Lupida Village. We urge men to be patient and resolve their issues amicably instead of taking the law into their own hands,” the elders appealed.
The tragic incident has left residents in deep mourning, as authorities continue investigations into the motive and circumstances surrounding the murder.
