Kenyatta Hospital murder suspect arrested

NAIROBI: Homicide detectives have arrested Kennedy Kalombotole, the prime suspect in the grisly murder of Edward Maingi Ndegwa, a patient at Kenyatta National Hospital.

the late Edward was admitted to Ward 7B, Group C (Male), on July 11, 2025, and was brutally murdered on July 17, 2025.

According to initial reports, a nurse had checked his blood pressure at around 11:30 a.m., while a relative who visited at 12:30 p.m. found him stable and left at approximately 1:30 p.m. However, around 2:00 p.m., a cleaner noticed blood pooling around the patient’s neck.

When detectives arrived at the scene, they observed bloody slipper prints leading from the victim’s bedside to a nearby toilet and eventually to a side room where Kalombotole had been admitted.

Inside the room, investigators recovered a pair of blue slippers and a blood-stained bedsheet.

Further, beneath the window of the deceased’s ward on the seventh floor, a knife wrapped in gloves was discovered.

All items were forwarded to the National Forensic Laboratory for detailed analysis to support the case.

Preliminary findings also linked Kalombotole to an earlier unresolved case: the murder of Gilbert Kinyua Muthoni, 40, who was killed in Ward 7C during the night of February 6–7, 2025.

Kalombotole had been admitted to the hospital on December 1, 2024.

Following the most recent incident, detectives compiled a case file and submitted it to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). Upon review, the ODPP instructed further investigations to strengthen the prosecution’s case.
