Three Arrested in Marimanti for Trafficking Live Pancake Tortoises

THARAKA NITHI: A joint operation by the National Police Service and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on August 10, 2025, led to the arrest of three suspects at Marimanti Market, Tharaka Nithi County.

The trio was intercepted while transporting four live Pancake Tortoises hidden inside a carton.

The endangered reptiles were recovered and secured as evidence.

Police confirmed that the suspects are in custody, awaiting processing and arraignment.
