NYANDARUA: Detectives in Nyandarua County are investigating two tragic incidents that have left the community reeling — the brutal killing of a schoolgirl in Olkalau and the death of a local bishop in a construction accident.
In the first case, the body of a 13-year-old girl was discovered on a farm in Olkalau on Wednesday afternoon, hours after she was reported missing.
She had been sent to a shop on Tuesday evening but never returned home.
According to police, her body was found in a bush with multiple injuries, including severe head wounds.
The remains were taken to the mortuary for a postmortem to determine if she had been sexually assaulted.
No suspects have been arrested.
The killing has sparked outrage among locals, who demanded urgent action amid what they describe as a rising wave of murders targeting women and children in the area.
Police acknowledged the trend, saying additional officers had been deployed to tackle such crimes.
Meanwhile, tragedy struck in Heni area of the same county when Bishop Johana Kibue, 57, of HM Israel Church, died after being trapped under debris from a collapsing building under construction on Tuesday evening.
Police said Kibue, who was also the church owner, had been working on the structure with his two children when it caved in.
Acting as a mason at the time, he was buried under the rubble while his children escaped unharmed.
Locals, assisted by police, retrieved his body from the debris before transferring it to the mortuary for autopsy.
County officials and investigators visited the scene on Wednesday as inquiries continued.
