Chaos as Gachagua’s Convoy Attacked Near City Cabanas

Chaos broke out on Thursday afternoon when former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s convoy was attacked by a group of stone-throwing youths at the City Cabanas stage along Mombasa Road.

The youths, who arrived on boda bodas, disrupted the procession by pelting vehicles with stones, causing panic among supporters and motorists.

Several vehicles were damaged in the melee, including those ferrying journalists. Equipment belonging to Cape Media’s TV47 crew was destroyed in the fracas.

Witnesses said some motorists and pedestrians lost personal belongings, including mobile phones, while a number of people sustained injuries during the attack.

At the time of the incident, Gachagua’s team was leaving Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and heading to the Nairobi Central Business District.

The convoy was reportedly forced to halt as leaders and supporters attempted to regain order.

Earlier, the procession had been largely peaceful, save for a brief scuffle inside JKIA as supporters made their way out of the airport. By 3 p.m. East African Time, the convoy was still stuck at City Cabanas as police and security personnel tried to contain the situation.
