Celebrated sports journalist Fred Arocho has called on musician Bahati to honor his promise of paying Sh1 million to the national football team.
Speaking during a luncheon organized by Odibets, Arocho cautioned the artist against using football for publicity stunts without following through on commitments.
“When you want to chase clout, please stay away from football. In football we don’t entertain such nonsense. Please pay up the promise you made to the national team,” Arocho said.
Bahati made the pledge earlier this year, declaring he would reward Harambee Stars players with Sh1 million if they secured victory in an international fixture. His promise sparked excitement among fans and players alike, but weeks later, no payment has been made.
Arocho’s remarks come amid growing calls from fans urging the singer to deliver on his word, with some accusing him of clout chasing at the expense of the national team’s morale.
The journalist also praised the impact of Harambee Stars’ head coach Benni McCarthy, saying the South African tactician has already revitalized Kenyan football.
“I told people that McCarthy would bring the magic touch to the national team, and I have been vindicated. There is a new breath in Kenya’s football,” Arocho added.
Bahati has not yet issued a public response to Arocho’s demand or clarified whether he intends to fulfill his Sh1 million pledge.
