Thika Detectives Rescue Two Women, Arrest Suspected Kidnappers

KIAMBU: Detectives in Thika West have arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued two young women who had been held hostage in a house in Muguga area.

The suspects, identified as Davis Mugambi and John Maina Macharia, were cornered following a timely tip-off from vigilant members of the public.

Upon raiding the house, officers found the victims visibly shaken, in tears, and bearing signs of physical assault.

Their mobile phones had been confiscated in a bid to cut off communication with the outside world.

A search of the premises yielded seven mobile phones, five Safaricom SIM plates, and three Airtel SIM plates.

Detectives also impounded a motor vehicle, registration number KDT 998N, believed to be the gang’s getaway car.

Inside, police recovered four kitchen knives, seven matchboxes, and other suspicious items.

Preliminary investigations established that the women were kidnapped in Nyeri on August 19, 2025, and transported to Thika using the seized vehicle.

Police further revealed that Mugambi is a wanted man in Nyeri, linked to a series of kidnapping and theft cases, suggesting the suspects could be part of a wider criminal syndicate.

The duo is currently in custody as detectives wrap up investigations ahead of their arraignment in court.
