Police arrest notorious gang in Murang’a

MURANG’A: A high-profile criminal who has been terrorizing residents of Murang’a County was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning during a coordinated operation by the DCI and local police.

The suspect was flushed out of a hideout on the outskirts of Kenol Town in Murang’a South.

This initial arrest triggered a subsequent raid in Ichagaki, Maragua, where three other individuals were apprehended in connection with a string of violent crimes across the county.

The suspects are linked to a series of brutal robberies where victims were reportedly assaulted with machetes.

Authorities believe this gang has been the primary force behind the recent wave of insecurity in Murang’a and surrounding areas.

During the multi-agency operation, police seized several items believed to be the proceeds of crime or tools used in the robberies; three motorcycles, one used as a getaway vehicle and two others suspected to have been stolen, a machete, a knife, a Maasai rungu, and a crowbar.

Two television sets and several assorted mobile phones were also recovered in the operation.

The four suspects appeared before a Murang’a Magistrate court.

They will remain in custody as detectives continue investigating; the court granted prosecution request to hold them.
