Four illegal fire arms returned In Tana River County

TANA RIVER: The voluntary surrender of illegally held firearms in Tana River County continues to make positive progress.

On 12 January 2026, members of the public in Tana North Sub-County voluntarily surrendered four illegal firearms to a multi-agency security team as part of the ongoing government-led disarmament initiative.

The surrendered firearms were secured for safe custody pending further processing.

Elsewhere in Kakamega County, Police officers from Lumakanda Police Station in Kakamega County, acting on information received from the public, earlier on January 12 intercepted a motor vehicle suspected of transporting cannabis sativa.

The officers laid a strategic ambush along the Webuye–Eldoret Highway, leading to the interception of the vehicle, which was travelling from Busia towards Eldoret.

Following a search, two bales were recovered from the vehicle.

Each bale weighed approximately 10 kilograms and contained a dry plant material suspected to be cannabis (bhang).

The driver was immediately arrested and the vehicle impounded as investigations continue.
