I will not listen to elders again, Atandi says over university land

Political tussle between Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi and Siaya Governor James Orengo has reached a boiling point.

Atandi has issued a stern warning to local elders, telling them to “stay aside” as he prepares to forcibly reclaim a land title deed from the Governor’s office.

The bone of contention is a prime piece of land that Atandi insists must host a satellite campus for Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST).

However, Governor Orengo allegedly has other plans: turning the site into the new Siaya County headquarters.

“I pleaded with him to return the land and he ignored me,” Atandi stated. After being held back by elders once before, the lawmaker says his patience has run out.
