NAIROBI: As Kenyans continue to lose millions of shillings to digital cartels, a case in Kibera is shining a light on how deep the problem goes.
Edwin Museve Mwanchi, a Safaricom sub-contractor based in Kakamega, is currently in custody after being accused of stealing Ksh 850,000 from a resident in Kibera’s Lindi area.
The victim, Riwell Mwangi Migwi, shared with the court account of how the fraudsters didn’t just stop at his savings, they used his identity to take out loans across several bank accounts.
This case is particularly alarming as it involves a suspect in a position of trust, a lead agent for a major telecommunications provider.
To ensure the integrity of the investigation, Chief Magistrate Stella Atambo ordered a pre-bail report to be filed.
Until the next hearing on June 25, 2026, the suspect will remain behind bars.
