A woman whose controversial online remarks sparked widespread public outrage has officially been brought before the courts.
Detectives today arraigned Sahara Ahmed Barre following the rapid spread of a viral video across various social media platforms, which captured her making highly inflammatory utterances.
Appearing before the Kahawa Law Courts, Barre was slapped with charges of Ethnic Contempt, a serious offense under Section 62(1) of the National Cohesion and Integration Act (No. 12 of 2008).
The prosecution alleges that her filmed remarks directly violated national cohesion laws aimed at curbing hate speech and ethnic incitement.
When the charges were read out to her, Barre entered a plea of not guilty.
The court subsequently granted her release on a cash bail of Sh200,000, or alternatively, a bond of Sh1,000,000 with a surety of an equivalent amount.
With the initial plea entered and bail terms set, the legal battle now moves to its next phase, with the court scheduling the case for mention on June 22, 2026.
