Buy-Kenya online platform, the Kenya’s new e-commerce platform launched

With the global growth of e-commerce platforms easing interaction between buyers and sellers, a new platform has launched in Kenya.

BuyKenya, a four-faceted platform operated by Buy Kenya Business Solutions, aims to not only bridge the consumer-seller gap but also open local products to the global market.

The ecosystem consists of four main pillars: BuyKenya.org, BuyKenya.biz, Workforce Readiness, and BuyKenya.net.

“This is a commerce engine geared toward empowering the local Kenyan entrepreneurship landscape, specifically the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) at the bottom of the pyramid,” said Javans Omonge, CEO of Buy Kenya Business Solutions.

The first component, BuyKenya.org, serves as a product catalog featuring items from all over Kenya, including remote areas.

This gives local entrepreneurs the opportunity to display their products to prospective national and international buyers.

“That is the level e-commerce has reached. For instance, a local carpenter in Gikomba Market or an avocado farmer in Murang’a can now reach a buyer in Brussels or Paris and compete favorably,” Mr Omonge added.

“For too long, many entrepreneurs have struggled with visibility, market access, and digital transformation.

BuyKenya provides a practical solution that enables businesses to be discovered, transact online, access market intelligence, and compete effectively in local, regional, and global markets.”

The platform offers several subscription tiers, the entry level where for as little as Sh1,500 annually, a hawker or farmer can list up to 10 products, the mid-tier Sh5,000 annually, users can list up to 30 products, the corpotrate tier is Sh50,000 annually, users can list up to 5,000 businesses, and finally the lifetime/developed premium package available for Sh500,000 annually.

To prevent fraudulent activities and ensure security, the platform has implemented strict guardrails.

First, only registered Kenyan businesses will be allowed to list products.

Secondly, the system features an escrow-style payment structure, funds are only released to the seller after the goods have been successfully delivered within a 30-day window and the customer is satisfied.

Transactions are processed via mobile money locally, and via credit/business cards for international buyers.

While addressing the platform’s first ten sales team members, Daniel Juma, the founder of Buy Kenya Business Solutions, pointed out that the platform is set to revolutionize Kenyan e-commerce.

“You are not merely joining a company; you are becoming pioneers of a movement that has the potential to revolutionize business in Kenya,” Mr. Juma said. “Every business you onboard represents an entrepreneur whose dream can become a reality through access to new customers and markets. Every listing creates opportunities for growth, innovation, and job creation.”

He emphasized that Kenya’s future economic growth will be driven largely by MSMEs and youth entrepreneurship.

“Our vision is to build Kenya’s leading business listing, digital commerce, and trade enablement ecosystem. We believe this initiative will create opportunities for thousands of young people across the country, both directly and indirectly. As the platform grows, it will generate jobs for sales professionals, digital marketers, delivery partners, technology specialists, trainers, and countless entrepreneurs who will benefit from increased market access.”

The remaining pillars of the platform serve specialized functions: BuyKenya.biz, commission-based platform for promoting products within the Kenyan market, partnering directly with vendors and buyers to ensure products are delivered within a specified timeframe, BuyKenya.net mainly focuses on providing market intelligence for products and services within the country, and the Workforce readiness is a program designed to help recent graduates bridge the gap into the professional world. For a small fee, candidates receive training on exact market requirements to help them stand out from their peers, earning a certification upon completion.
