Fake KDF officer disarmed at high-stakes Migori football match

Police have arrested two people after an armed man masquerading as a military officer attempted to storm the VIP section during a high-stakes football match at the Sony Green Stadium in Awendo.

The dramatic incident unfolded during a tense National Super League (NSL) fixture between local favorites Migori Youth FC and Equity Bank FC.

The primary suspect, identified as Godfrey Otieno, alias “Daddy,” allegedly attempted to force his way into the stadium’s VIP dais while the match was actively underway.

When alert security personnel intercepted him, a brief standoff ensued, during which Otieno drew a firearm.

Law enforcement officers deployed at the venue intervened swiftly, disarming the suspect and neutralizing the threat before the situation could escalate or disrupt the match.

Upon restraining and searching the suspect, police recovered a CZ pistol loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition. Investigators have since confirmed that Otieno has no affiliation with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), despite his claims at the scene.

Gun owner arrested

The security breach took a sharp turn when a civilian firearm holder, identified as Peter Jobando, arrived at the scene shortly after the altercation.

Under police interrogation, Jobando admitted to being the lawful owner of the confiscated weapon and acknowledged that he had handed it over to Otieno.

Mr Jobando was immediately taken into custody for violating the Firearms Act by permitting an unauthorized individual to carry a lethal weapon.

Migori County authorities confirmed that both suspects are currently held at the Awendo Police Station undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court.

The CZ pistol and the 10 rounds of ammunition have been booked as exhibits to secure the case file.
